Regulation & Financing of a European offshore grid

In order to fully exploit the potential of offshore wind energy and develop a meshed offshore grid in the North Seas, an internationally binding regulatory and economic framework is needed. This is a key conclusion of the EU-funded research project PROMOTioN (Progress On Meshed HVDC Offshore Transmission Networks).

PROMOTioN’s latest report “Regulatory and financing principles for a meshed HVDC offshore grid” summarizes the key findings on the design of a legal, regulatory and financing framework for cross-border HVDC offshore connections. It provides recommendations for policy makers and other stakeholders to take appropriate measures to enable the first hybrid assets to be built in the North Sea. Building upon this, a first draft of a deployment plan, the key output of PROMOTioN, will be developed and presented. Project partners seek your individual opinion on the findings and invite you to an open discussion during this side event.

The event focuses on presenting and discussing the project results on regulatory and financial hurdles as well as the deployment plan for a meshed offshore grid until 2050. Target audience of this event are TSOs, wind industry, energy regulators, policy makers and academia.

The detailed agenda can be downloaded from this website.

The event is going to take place in Meeting room 18, level 1. Download the venue plan here.
