Technical challenges and solutions for Meshed Offshore Grids

Maintaining security of supply whilst cost-effectively integrating large quantities of renewable energy is the main challenge for the future European power grid. The EU funded research project PROMOTioN (Progress On Meshed HVDC Offshore Transmission Networks) addresses this challenge by demonstrating a broad variety of key HVDC technologies, as well as providing a solid research basis to prove their technical viability.
