Tender for Viking Link Interconnector Issued

The Danish transmission systems network operator Energienet.dk, together with National Grid Viking Ltd. (UK), issue €1.3 billion tender for Viking Link Cables and Converters, a project they have jointly developed.

 

The Viking Link is proposed 1,400 MW HVDC electricity link between the Danish and British transmission systems, connecting Lincolnshire in the UK with southern Jutland in Denmark.

The project will involve the construction of a converter station in each country and the installation of subsea and underground cables between each converter station and underground cables between the converter station and substation in each country.

Overall value of the tender is €1.3 billion and the project period is 114 month. The tender is structures in seven lots, ranging from design to the installation and maintenance.

The interconnector would enable more effective use of renewable energy, access to sustainable electricity generation and improved security of electricity supplies. Thus, it will benefit the UK consumer as well as the socio economy of both countries.
